This morning, 16/09/2025, my friend and I joined the morning tour led by a tour guide named Huy. We are Vietnamese. I majored in tourism at university. I have been working in tourism marketing for 1 year (writing a travel blog in English for an inbound travel company). My friend studies languages and plans to become a tour guide. Therefore, we have also conducted extensive research and gained a wealth of knowledge about Vietnamese culture, history, and tourism. We joined this tour with the desire to learn more from professional tour guides, but what I received had a very negative impact on my day. The information and knowledge the tour guide gave was not really accurate and, without research, was mainly based on ChatGPT (the tour guide said he used ChatGPT Pro) A few examples are about the Vietnamese flag; in fact, red is the color of blood, but the tour guide told me it was a lucky color. When I gave my opinion, he said he used ChatGPT, and it said so. I was extremely shocked, as a tour guide, but he did not have the most basic knowledge and relied too much on ChatGPT. Or when I asked why incense was burned in the temple, the tour guide said it was because Buddha liked the scent, but in fact, Vietnamese people believe that incense smoke will help connect the real world and the spiritual world. I asked him about the things and the scenery that we observed on the tour; his answers were all wrong or off-topic and extremely rambling, making us all feel frustrated and not want to ask more. In particular, he took us to visit Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and talked about the history and wars in Vietnam, but there was a lot of information that was not really correct. My friend and I asked some questions, but the answers we received were not as expected, and a lot of wrong things, making us really uncomfortable. During the tour, I didn't understand if it was because we are Vietnamese or for some other reason, but when we asked, he was not really happy to answer and mainly followed a fixed script, which made the experience less engaging. What I feel most disappointed about the tour is that a tour guide, sharing about the culture and history of Vietnam with international friends, LACKS TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE of the most basic things and doesn't have much research and understanding of his own, but relies too much on GPT chat. Finally, we ended the tour early because we were too tired of that negative energy and could not accept any more incorrect information. I hope there will be more practical self-study and useful knowledge in the future.
The tour itself was very nice one. Enjoyed talking with our guide. Learned a lot about Vietnam history and culture. Nice one
