Hello! We are extremely pleased to meet you and to have the opportunity to show you our beloved city. We are a group of guides with diverse backgrounds and professions, but we all share the same passion: our beautiful city, whether we have adopted it or it's our hometown, the historic and cosmopolitan Marseille. Coming from Argentina, Marseille, Spain, Venezuela, and with skills ranging from professional guiding to anthropology and journalism, we have all dedicated our best efforts to prepare our tours. These tours are filled with history, anecdotes, and current events, narrated by people who have lived in this city for years. We are more than willing to share all of this and much more with you in a fun, educational, and entertaining way. We look forward to having you with us!
Join us to explore this wonderful city of 2,600 years on a two-hour walking tour, where we will embark on an exciting journey. We will begin our adventure at the marvelous Old Port, a natural harbor and the birthplace of the city, where it all began.
Then, we will head to the new Hôtel Dieu, which opened its doors for the "Marseille Provence 2013" event, during which Marseille was the European Capital of Culture. From there, we will venture into the Le Panier District, a beautiful old town with a long history dating back to the founding of Marseille by the Greeks in the 6th century BC. Over the centuries, this neighborhood has been home to a mix of communities, including Romans, Armenians, Neapolitans, and Africans, among others, reflecting the cultural diversity that permeates its architecture and atmosphere.
We will continue our tour by visiting the impressive Marseille Cathedral, one of the architectural symbols of the city. We will conclude our experience at the entrance of the Mucem: a new icon of Marseille. The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations is one of the most visited places in the city thanks to its modern architecture that blends with the Renaissance-era Saint-Jean Fortress. Here, you can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of the city and capture memorable photos of the coastline.
This journey will allow us to travel through time and understand the changes that have taken place in this ancient city.
Good morning! The tour starts at VIEUX PORT (Old Port), meeting point under the mirrored ceiling called 'L'Ombrière de Norman Foster'. LOOK FOR THE LIGTH BLUE UMBRELLA! For those arriving by cruise, don't delay as the terminal is far from the city center. Besides buses and taxis within the port, you can also walk following the green line to the exterior of the facilities and take the public bus Line 35, which will drop you off at its last stop at La Joliette Square, about a 15-minute walk from the tour meeting point. Bus fare is 2 euros per passenger, payable to the driver. FOR THOSE ARRIVING LATE, the guide will pass by the front of the Starbucks Café on Av. République at approximately half hour after. See you soon
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
