Footprints Tours was created to show you the best of Britain in the most entertaining way possible; not to bore you to death with one of those dry and stuffy experiences that are so easy to find. Yes, we want to tell you all about King Henry VIII and The English Reformation, but what about The University of Oxford's annual Tortoise Race? Footprints Tours is a student start-up company, created to share the fascinating history of Oxford and various other cities. We’re not a big faceless organisation, but a group of students and locals determined to show visitors the best that England has to offer. Simple as that. It will be our pleasure to show you around.
We started providing our 2-hour free walking tour of Oxford nearly four years ago, and it has quickly earned a global reputation. The tour covers a vast range of different topics, all explained clearly and accessibly by our University-educated guides. We take you through the story of Oxford, from the city’s beginnings as a humble Saxon town through to its current position as a world-famous seat of learning and culture. Oxford has been around for nearly 2000 years. Give us two short hours, and we’ll tell you this amazing story from start to finish!
All of our Oxford walking tours are delivered in such a way as to ensure you don’t fall asleep! We hate dry, boring tours that don’t engage their audiences. History doesn’t need to be boring, and with so many big names and events having been tied to Oxford (as well as the University having so many bizarre traditions and funny stories), we see no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy every single minute of your tour experience.
Our 2 Hour Free Oxford Walking Tour covers:
Christ Church College – alma mater of 13 British Prime Ministers
All Souls College
Trinity College
Oriel College
Hertford College
Merton College
The Bodleian Library
The Radcliffe Camera
University Church of St Mary
And many more University sights!
An equally in-depth history of the town
Ceremonies at Oxford
The stories of famous graduates, and their little-known experiences at Oxford
Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland
And our famous “finishing story”, which details how the most powerful Archbishop of Canterbury England has ever seen came to be burnt at the stake in Oxford!
Outside Fudge Kitchen, 5 Broad Street - on the other side is a green bike locked to a lamp post
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
