Hi everyone! My name is Callum. I'm an archaeological student originally from New Zealand, but have previously lived in Germany, Australia and now Greece. I am currently completing my masters degree with Kent University in Heritage Management, with a campus located in the town of Elefsina. The focus of my studies is in preparing and presenting archaeological and heritage information for public consumption. Many of you are on this website as you seek both a unique and informative experience from you stay in Greece. I am happy to be able to offer both whilst providing an element of fun in my walking narration of the past. I would love to invite you to join me in a journey through time.

Tour description

I was a resident of Elefsina (Eleusis) for a year whilst completing my masters in Heritage Management. I have a background in archaeology, ancient history and tourism.

Does this sound like the perfect mix for a tour guide?

So what are the Eleusinian Mysteries?

If we knew that, it would no longer be a mystery. I would be happy to impart what knowledge we do have of the mysteries, a cult so impressive that even the Romans wanted to join, so secretive that those who talked of it were put to death.

What i can tell you is that it was a cult for Demeter who gifted us the origins of agriculture. I do not wish to focus too much on myth as i'm more interested in the physical reminders of our past. Elefsina boast a rich history, often mirroring that of other developments within the wider country.

I would love to use Elefsina and the patchwork of archaeological and historic remains to explore the past of Greece. From our walk around the town we can discuss the ancient Greek and Roman world, the turmoil and stages of abandonment facing the town, the pivotal role the town played in the industrial revolution of Greece as well as the significance of the town to many migrant communities (with particular focus on the Asia Minor population swaps of 1922/23).

I will be dividing my tour into four main themes, and it is up to you to decide if you would rather focus on one, two or all of them.

These themes include

-The ancient past

-The historic and early town

-The industrial revolution

-The migrant history of the town

We will be meeting at Monastiraki Square, where you should allow for around 45 minutes transit each way to the town of Elefsina. The tour will last around 2 hours, with 2 additional hours allowed for transit time or if you wish to visit the archaeological site of Eleusis.

The price of the bus and train in each direction will be €1.4 and unguided entrance to the archaeological site will be €6.

Minimum booking size of 2.
