I'm Arthur - my friends call me Zaasa. I was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda. I have had the opportunity to live in a different country for a year, and to travel to different global destinations over the years. From the experiences I had and the people I met on these travels, I was inspired to find ways of sharing the best bits of day-to-day life in Uganda's main cities (Kampala, Jinja, Entebbe) with guests that are visiting Uganda. I founded Immersionug with a group of friends: We are a team of young people that are passionate about our country and want to share the awesome aspects of Uganda like our food, our hospitality, our diverse culture and nature with visitors that seek a taste of local day to day experiences. I worked for eight years in Uganda's leading brewery and the home of our best known beer, Nile Special, and I am a beer enthusiast. I have hosted countless house parties, boat cruises and I am always hanging out with friends on the weekends. I have also hosted countless visitors to Uganda in my home via couch surfing and have hang out with guests on many occasions. I have visited most of the capitals in Western Europe and spent a year in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am excited to be able to share many of my favourite activities in Uganda's cities, with other like minded visitors.

Tour description

Whether you are a family, an individual or a group, enjoy the experience of shopping in a local market, learning to prepare a traditional Ugandan dish and enjoying the meal with a new found friend. Experience a day of food, friendship and relaxation in hospitable Kampala. Meet up with your host at Nakawa fresh produce market early in the morning around 10:00am. Enjoy a relaxed hour or so of picking up fresh ingredients in the market, and let your host teach you about the different local foods and ingredients, as well as showing you the tricky art of haggling with Ugandan vendors. After shopping, you will then head off to the host's home. Enjoy the experience of learning to prepare a Ugandan meal with the aid of the host. Staples you can expect to learn to prepare include Matooke (steamed green bananas), luwombo (chicken or goat steamed in banana leaves), Smoked tilapia prepared in peanut sauce, tropical salads and many more. Meals may be prepared on local Ugandan charcoal stoves. When the meal is ready, enjoy a sumptuous lunch with the host. Do not be surprised if neighbours or visitors join in - meal time is a social occasion in Uganda and friends and family are normally invited to join in when hosting guests. After lunch and tidying up, relax with conversation, Ugandan beer and wine/ gin or juice. Also learn to play the local board and card games like omweso and matatu. Share stories of your home and life with your host, and learn about theirs. As the day comes to a close, around 5-6pm, the host will arrange an uber or drop you off at your residence in and around Kampala.
