Hi there everyone! I'm Susanne from Athens, an official Tour Guide with a University Degree in Spanish history, literature, and arts and I've been living in Spain since 2015. I came to visit Bilbao because of the Guggenheim Museum, and fell in love with the city, so I decided, since the very "peculiar" summer of 2020 to offer Free Tours in English, to whoever would be interested to discover the real history and go beyond the touristic part of Bilbao. Via the GuruWalk platform of Free Tours, I can combine my passion for the city, for meeting new interesting people, and for making a living from what I love doing the most.
The Memory Walk (El Paseo de la Memoria) is an open-air- artistic walk along way the river estuary of the side of the Guggenheim Museum. Used to be a high industrial area, and now is the favourite place for a stroll. Having the Museum in its centre, bridges, buildings and sculptures are full of hidden stories, waiting for whom wants to listen.
The walk is of a straight course of about four kilometres and very relaxing, mainly because of the time of the day chosen to do. During an hour an a half, we'll talk about the Guggenheim Effect and why the Museum was built in Bilbao, the beginning of the Athletic Football Team, the stories of the bridges that we'll pass and about some even more interesting stories about its people whom lived in a city which has been transformed like no other, but wants to keep its memory alive.
In the base of the Zubizuri / Calatrava Bridge on the Guggenheim side, right next to the Tranvia railway.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
