An introduction to Tatar culture, or What makes Kazan so special

Duration: 2h and 30min

Born and bred in Kazan, 100% local =) I have a linguistic education, but also the enthusiasm for history and architecture - and now a guide's certificate) As a guide, I tend to be on the spontaneous side rather than speak strictly from the script. I try not to dig deep into details/names, but to give you the overall picture of Kazan's past linked to its streets and buildings (and a bit of Kazan's present, too).

Tour description

We're going to see a very peculiar place, the old Tatar part of the city centre. It's great because: - it's quiet and atmospheric: carved wooden houses, narrow lanes and all that kind of things; - it differs from other Russian cities, as it's an example of a typical Tatar neighbourhood; - the architecture itself can tell a lot about how Tatar culture was shaped during the centuries (we'll see some distinctive features of Tatar traditional way of life)

Olga was an excellent tour guide. Despite not holding a tour for 12 months. We were shown around Kazan and learnt some interesting facts about the city. Olga insisted that we donate to a Kazan based charity instead of giving money to her which was a fantastic touch. Thanks again Olga!

It was a really great tour inside Tatars’ culture with a passionate guide! Olga is really welcoming, even if I was the only one to book the tour she came and took her time. A lot of knowledges about the history of the city and the culture of the Republic of Tatarstan. Definitely a must to do during your stay in Kazan! Thank you once again Olga!

Olga is a great tour guide and wonderful to talk with to get the local color of Kazan. She is a true native and knows the best spots for food, souvenirs, and a cup of free tea. As advertised, the tour focuses mostly on the Tatar influence and its relationship to the city, taking place in the old Tatar part of town. You won't see the main Kazan sites like the Kremlin, but if you have two or more days in Kazan, this is definitely worth one of them!

Olga was such a kind and good guide! She knows a lot about the Tatar culture and the locations that you pass on the tour. We had a really good afternoon and would highly recommend Olga!

The tour with Olga was amazing. She provides so many interesting information about Kazan and the role of Tatars. Even though we were a large group she was very flexible and we were all very satisfied. After the end of the tour, Olga wrote me a long message with things to do, where to eat and what to try out in Kazan. I can fully recommend the tour with Olga!! :-)
