About the tour

We will meet at 16:00 in the Plaza de San Lorenzo, one of the most emblematic places in Florence and probably the best starting point to start a tour of the Medici. There we will discover who were this family of bankers who during the Middle Ages made flourish at all levels not only to Florence, but to all of Tuscany. Leaving the Basilica of San Lorenzo behind, we will walk to the Palazzo Médici Riccardi, the Renaissance mansion commissioned by Cosme I El Viejo in the 15th century where several generations of the Medici resided. From there, we will move to the nearby Plaza del Duomo, where the Florence Cathedral, the emblem of Florence and the pride of the Medici are erected. While we admire its spectacular and colorful facade, we will discover something much darker that happened between its walls: the Conjuration of the Pazzi, one of the bloodiest pages in Fiorentine history. Then, we will walk through the historic center of the city until we reach the Plaza de la Signoria, where we will see the Palazzo Vecchio. From this unmistakable building, the Medici ruled for centuries promoting the art and development of Tuscany. Precisely, next to the Palazzo Vecchio is the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most important museums in the world. Surely it is no accident! After passing through Piazzale Uffizi we will arrive at Ponte Vecchio, for many the most picturesque place in Florence. As we cross the Arno River and admire the hustle and bustle of its luxurious jewelers, we will discover the history of the bridge and some of its curiosities. The last stop of the Medici tour of Florence will take place in Pitti Square, where the homonymous palace is located. Although the construction of this huge Renaissance building had nothing to do with the Medici, it ended up swelling its heritage over the years. We will find out! In front of the facade of the Palazzo Pitti we will conclude the guided route at 6:00 p.m.
