I was born and raised in Funchal and since I was 14 years old, I dreamed of being a Guide and showing travelers my little piece of heaven. I became a mountain guide in 2016 and fulfilled part of my dream, guiding people in the incredible nature of Madeira. In 2018, I had the challenge of starting the Free Tours in my city. I accepted the challenge and I feel very happy and fortunate to share the best of the city and the mountains with our visitors!
Funchal is the Capital of the Archipelago of Madeira, the first place the Portuguese settled overseas in the 15th, in the Age of Discoveries.
Soon, Funchal became a very important harbor in the Atlantic, as many ships stopped over to get supplies.
It was in Madeira that the mass production of sugar started. Madeira supplied sugar to Europe in the 15th, 16th and part of the 17th Century.
The sugar trades brought a lot of wealth to the Island, which attracted many foreigners. Some just passing by, a lot of them settling here.
Christopher Colombus was in Madeira for the first time in 1478 due to a sugar trade and then lived on the Archipelago for about 2 years, as he married a local lady.
With the decline of the sugar trades in Madeira, the Wine industry took over. The fortified Madeira Wine in known worldwide and, according to Thomas Jefferson, it is the wine of every civilized man!
Funchal is also the hometown of the Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo!

Lisa gave us a fantastic tour with lots of information and easy conversation, all at a good pace. I really appreciated that she did not rush us and offered us a few moments at different sites to look around and take a photo. A very talented tour guide!
I did the Free Tour with Lisa and it didn't disappoint. I had visited t Funchal a few times before, but felt like I only really got to know it with this Free Tour. Varied history, beautiful sites and a fantastic biscuit tasting in an old Factory. Highly recommend!
What a wonderful way to see parts of Funchal that you might miss otherwise, spending time in Lisa's company. She's very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her city, she's also calm, patient, funny, inclusive of all guests no matter how big the group. I was so impressed with her ability to learn everyone's names during the tour I was on and she was very good at weaving everyone into conversations even if on their own, as I was that day. By the end, she made it feel like we really were a group, not just random people following her around. I can highly recommend booking a tour with her. Next time I'm in Funchal I'll do the Old Town tour. Still so much to see and do after all these years of visiting Madeira, but this is an excellent way to start if you're new to the city.
My husband and I have done two walks with Lisa. They were brilliant, informative and fun too. She is very passionate about her island and her enthusiasm shows in her tours. We will definitely being booking another when we visit Madeira next year!
