Tour description

Santander "step by step" Part 3: "The Santander Coast" The most beautiful hiking tour in our city Tripcantabria Tripcantabria is an organization of tourist visits in Cantabria. Always, complying with the regulations in force in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria: Official Guides. They are intended for ALL PUBLIC. We do not know who will accompany us every day, tastes, profession or affinities. For this reason, we try to make the information enjoyable and diverse without going into depth ... More »The visit to the city of Santander that we propose is divided into three parts: Part 1: Downtown. Part 2: Sardinero, La Magdalena Peninsula and La Magdalena Palace. Part 3. "La Costa de Santander" The most beautiful walk in our city About the tour: - Departure days: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. - Place of departure: Municipal Tourist Office of El Sardinero, in front of the Gran Casino. - Time: 10.30 am. - Approximate duration: 2 hours. - Minimum number of participants: 10. - Distance to cover: approximately 4 kilometers. The city of Santander has a wonderful coastline in which the Bay of Santander stands out, with the Avenida de la Reina Victoria that was expressly drawn to link the city with the Palacio Real de la Magdalena, and the cove of Sardinero, a residential neighborhood that It was born in the second half of the 19th century linked to wave bath tourism. This is the urban coast of Santander, accessible by vehicle and with a magnificent promenade that follows the entire coastline, from San Martín (Festival Palace) to the end of the Second Sardinero Beach (El Chiqui). But there is another equally beautiful coast, but more rugged and unknown to visitors, which extends beyond the Sardinero, by the cliffs of Cabo Menor and Cabo Mayor, by the terms of Cueto and Monte, to the small cove of La Maruca . It is a coast in which nature is the protagonist, only accessible on foot except at a few points where cars arrive, and where we will forget about the city. A journey that always makes us look towards the sea, sometimes peaceful and sometimes raging, but always omnipresent in our journey. And it is a route marked out by historical vestiges, often unknown to Santander's own residents, and which make this natural walk a cultural itinerary as well. We propose to make a section of this route that starts from the Sardinero beaches. We will go to the end of the Second Playa del Sardinero, a few stairs will allow us to gain height above the cove of Sardinero and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of it. After skirting the small cove of Los Molinucos, with its “playuca”, the path leads us to turn the point of Cabo Menor, with remains of the artillery battery of San Matías, built in the 18th century and of which only today remains a standing wall. We will leave behind the Sardinero cove and skirt the Mataleñas cove, with the beach of the same name, surrounded by high cliffs and with an access staircase. Then we will reach the fields of the Lighthouse, reaching them to the end of Cabo Mayor, with remains of artillery positions from the Civil War and exceptional views of the coast, dominated by the proximity of the lighthouse, which is accessed by a staircase in some minutes. The Cabo Mayor Lighthouse was built in the 30s of the 19th century and has an exhibition hall dedicated to the Cantabrian painter Eduardo Sanz, specialized in paintings of Spanish lighthouses. Here ends our tour of the other Santander coast. IMPORTANT NOTES: • To return to the center of Santander, once the route is finished, in addition to two alternatives on foot, there is a Santander urban transport stop (TUS), 100 meters from the end point, opposite the municipal campsite, with two catering places. The departure times of this municipal transport service are every hour. It takes more or less 5 minutes to the Sardinero area and 15 minutes to the city center. • Difficulty of the route: EASY. • This activity is carried out if the weather conditions are ideal, since part of the route is along coastal paths. • Depending on the time of the activity, we must choose one or the other equipment, especially in terms of clothing and be subject to foreseeable changes in weather, the essential equipment may include: Waterproof jacket, an umbrella folding, appropriate footwear for a walk. • Covid-19. At the time of carrying out and scheduling this visit-excursion, the Ministry of Health has indicated the measures that must be observed in this type of activities to reduce hygiene-health risks against Covid-19: 1. Respect in at all times the indications of the people coordinators, drivers and guides, for the correct des
