Hi there everyone! I'm Susanne from Athens, an official Tour Guide with a University Degree in Spanish history, literature and arts and I've been living in Spain since 2015. I came to visit Bilbao because of the Guggenheim Museum, and fell in love with the city, so I decided, since the very "peculiar" summer of 2020 to offer Free Tours in English, to whoever would be interested to discover the real history and go beyond the touristic part of Bilbao. Via the GuruWalk platform of Free Tours, I can combine my passion for the city, for meeting new interesting people and for making a living from what I love doing the most. For that, I don´t have any problem of the number of people coming to my tour, meaning that there´s no minimum amount of guests and that I´ll always happy to welcome you all to Bilbao.

Tour description

The district of Bilbao La Vieja is located on the other riverbank of the Old City, the so-called "The Left Side" and has coexisted with the Old City since its beginning.  It became the centre of the industrial activity in the late 19th for its mining activity, and since the 70's until recently was the least favourable part of the city, its dark spot.
Nowadays, it´s the most alternative, multi - coloured, multi ethnic and most interesting neighbourhood of the city.
Art Centres and Galleries, creativity - focused businesses, ethnic restaurants and bars, the whole gay night life, all these together form the most inter- racial district of the city. It is a warm and authentic district, gathering as no other the mixture of people and arts, natives and emigrants, the very proud Basque-speaking Basque society, the gay community, foreign artists, etc. are proud to live in Bilbao la Vieja.
For that, most of the Street - Art paintings have been created here, and a great part of the tour is dedicated to the street art of Bilbao.

Join me in a very interesting, most alternative and less touristic tour, in which we'll discover quite a few hidden corners of a very interesting and true to its tradition, neighbourhood, Bilbao's real life.

All my groups of guests are strictly limited to 9-10 person for a more personal and private tour and because of the Covid 19 measures. For that reason, please be punctual at the time and the place of our meeting, because of the limited bookings of every tour.

If you ever have the chance to visit this city you shouldn't miss this tour! Susanne is a fantastic person who loves this place!!! Except from the "hidden" And not touristic parts of the city she gives a good perspective of how locals live, of their mentality, of the problems they face and off course of the history of Bilbao. Through her eyes we managed to see the real Bilbao! We wouldn't have managed to do that with the help of a touristic guide book as this city evolves a lot.

We really enjoyed going on a sightseeing tour with Susanne. She was incredibly knowledgable, very friendly and open for questions. She explained everything very well and showed us parts of Bilbao we never would have seen on our own. A really great experience!

Susanne was a great guide and did not mind it was only 2 of us doing the tour. She took us around historic Bilbao and her picture book with before and now pictures of locations she took us to was brilliant. If you are in Bilbao, do give Susanne a chance. 10/10
