About the tour

Florence is one of the most influential cities of Northern Italy. Celebrated as the birthplace of Renaissance , continues to thrive as a banking power , as well as a city of great historical and artistic significance.

It was founded in 59 b.C. by Julius Cesar, who named the settlement Florentia and designated it a haven for retired military veterans. In fact it is in the manner of a military camp- That’s still evident in the city center today.

This Tour is intended to give you a brief and clear insight into Florence history, art, culture and oddies and to retrace the step of the evolution of the town planning from the Roman ages to the Renaissance period.

We will stop at some Topographic locations called “Canto”. Their names existed before 1300 and indicated points of major interest. Their nomenclature allows us to reconstruct the vitality of the past with news and curiosities.

We will continue through the centre of the city where you will see the masterpieces of the architect Brunelleschi: the renowned Cathedral guarded by the Saint John Baptistery and the Gates of Paradise.

I will introduce you to famous Works by Michelangelo: The Medici family tombs inside the church san Lorenzo. The tombs bear very fine allegorical figures representing Day, Night, Dawn and Dusk.

Next stop will be Piazza Signoria , the political centre and a real “open air museum”dominated by the imposing mass of Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi courtyard.

End of the tour at the New Market Loggia where stands the Piglet Fountain. Here you will be quite close the Ponte Vecchio.
