Hi everyone! My name is Jerónimo. I was born in Buenos Aires in 1990, but I have been in love with Valencia for many years. I moved to the city in 2008 where I studied Art History, and stayed here since then, except in short occasions where I lived in Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona. In this last place I attended a masters in International Cultural Cooperation
We will spend a beautiful morning enjoying one of the largest and most visited gardens , yet unknown to many.
This park has its origin in the orchards associated with the almunia, or recreation palace , ordered to be built by the kings of the taifa of Valencia and later expanded as gardens of the old Royal Palace of the city . After the demolition of the palace, they were used as municipal nurseries until they became an indispensable place of recreation for citizens.
Due to the historical vicissitudes that have taken place, many discarded pieces have come to this place, from doorways of churches and palaces to columns and crosses and several pieces dedicated to the decoration of the city.
We will start the tour through the door closest to the Turia Garden and from there, we will take various elements to explain both the history of the park and different historical periods of the city. We will talk about missing buildings that have left some remains in this place, sculptors, botany. We will mention the different spaces that it houses inside, such as the bird cages, the pond or the Museum of Natural Sciences.
Through old images we will delve into the history of one of the most magical places in the city , a park that every Valencian and visitor will enjoy discovering its secrets.
