Tour description

From Granada we first drive on the highest mountain road in Europe to the Sierra Nevada. After about half an hour we reach the Hoya de la Mora viewpoint at an altitude of 2,510 meters. A little away from the city and in the open air, there are ideal conditions for stargazing.

The public road ends here, around the parking lot are the hostel of the University of Granada, a base of the Guardia Civil and some kiosks.

If you continued walking along the road, you would reach the summit of Pico Veleta (3,396 meters above sea level) after about an hour and a half. Until 1999 this road was the highest motorable road in Europe, today you can only continue to the Alpujarra on foot or by bike. During the day, the Hoya de la Mora offers a beautiful view of the plains of Granada and the Sierra de Huétor to the north.

At an altitude of over 2,500 meters, starry nights and impressive sunrises are an experience. We go a few hundred meters away from the parking lot, where we can see countless stars without light pollution.
