Hi, my name is May, like the best breezy throughout the whole year, with hopes and brightness. The tour guide has always been my dream job since I was a little girl, and personally, I love travelling from deep in my heart. Being passionate is the top secret of enjoying my job and making my customers feel as happy as me, but never suffering from both sides. I've been working as a tour guide for years, at the very beginning, I only worked with the big groups facing at least 50 visitors at a time, taking care of everyone, handling all the events and sometimes the anticipates. It's not easy, but I still love it, coz being troubleshooting is exciting, especially when I could see the smiles on my clients' face, I feel great. I'm pretty sure if you travel with me, we could get along very well.
Montreal officially Montréal, is named after Mount Royal which is a triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city on the Island of Montreal. When you visit Montreal, especially the center city, the down, maybe you find the buildings or the edifices are not high enough to be called skyscrapers, then why? From the south shore of Montreal, the island does look like Manhattan Island, yeah, of course, smaller, but why there ain’t skyscrapers to make it look fancier?
Well, the reason is the Mont-Royal! As the holy symbol of the entire territory of the city, nothing is allowed to be higher than the cross on the top of the mount, which is 233m high.
The first Mount Royal Cross was placed there in 1643 by Paul Comedy de Maisonneuve, the founder of the city. Today, the mountain is crowned by a 31.4-meter-high illuminated cross, installed in 1924 by the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and now owned by the city. The cross is light with LEDs in 2009, usually lit in white, but can now be changed to any color, including the purple traditionally used upon the death of a pope.
As a recreational place, Mount Royal is always the best place for Montrealers, people could visit Mount Royal Park, Beaver Lake, the viewing terrace, and the largest church of Canada, Saint Joseph's Oratory, which is a National Historic Site of Canada with one of the largest church domes in the world, founded in 1904.
The Oratory is the highest building in Montreal, rising more than 30 meters above Mount Royal's summit, allowing it to be seen from many kilometers away. It is one of the few buildings that violate the height restriction under the municipal building code of Montreal, which limits the height of any building, including skyscrapers, from surpassing the height of Mount Royal cross.
What are you waiting for? Make a reservation with me, let’s go check all these out!
Looking forward to meeting you guys!
I will be in front of the main entrance gate of Saint Joseph's Oratory. You can easily find me by checking my profile pic.
