Hello, my name is Milthon Fernan, I am a professional tour guide, I also have a diploma in heritage interpretation. Prepare myself every day in what I love to do the most: guide, showing the culture and surroundings of my city to locals and foreigners with dedication, courage and passion, they are stimulating incentives to give the best of me, to each visitor. You will surely have a great time.
Ciénaga Magdalena , the inspiration for "Macondo", is one of the few cities in the world that has no date of the day it was founded. When European civilizations arrived almost 500 years ago, it was a large village with more than 5,000 huts. Today it is on a huge beach that measures 4 kilometers wide. From that refreshing beach, our adventure begins on the beautiful Miramar boardwalk , where you will be able to observe beautiful sunrises and captivating sunsets, and, in the distance, the bay of Santa Marta.
The banana boom at the beginning of the last century enriched its inhabitants , who decided to build buildings of great aesthetic and cultural value in the best European style, which are examples of the architecture of the republican period (neogothic, neoclassical, eclecticism, modernism, etc. ).
The intact conservation of these properties over time, achieved that its historic center was declared a national heritage and that the city is part of the network of heritage towns and is currently certified as a sustainable tourist destination in Colombia.
Masonic symbols will accompany us throughout the entire tour , you will see them on the Malecón Miramar, historic center and in the cemetery, together we will unveil them.
This historic city has a holy field jokingly called " The Rich Cemetery" . by Guillermo de Jesús Buitrago, the Cienaguero composer, who is resurrected every December when you listen to his songs: "New Year's Eve", "vinola rum" "vagabundo cry" "Compadre Heliodoro" among other of his famous compositions.
"El Diablo" existed and lived for many years in this town. In this Free Tour, I will take you to the "Casa del Diablo" where I will tell you the myth that still terrifies locals and visitors.
Finishing our Free Tour in the square of the martyrs, next to the "Prometheus of freedom" I will tell you about the massacre of the banana plantations.
Aaahh and what better to do this tour by pedicab or motocarro, you will love it, although walking is the best option.
Important information for the traveler:
If you live in Santa Marta or are visiting that city, we go to Ciénaga by taxi or intermunicipal bus. If you're in the swamp, wait for me at the Miramar boardwalk next to the "Tomasita's Revenge" monument.
I will be on the Miramar boardwalk next to the "Tomasita's Revenge" monument, I will have on my vest that identifies me as a professional tour guide.
