Main street of the city of Naples, pedestrian area.
Montesanto is an area of Naples that belongs to Montecalvario neighborhood, located between the Spanish Quarters Spagnoli and Dante square. Montesanto neighborhood starts at Montesanto square, where we find the Santa Maria di Montesanto Church, and also the Pellegrini hospital.
Traditional pizzeria and friggitoria "fried-food shop" where you can try some of the most typical dishes of our cuisine.
This name is due to the first inhabitants, the Spanish soldiers, when Naples was dominated by the Spanish Crown. In the year 1536, the viceking Don Pedro de Toledo ordered the costruction of these quarters at a strategical, for defensive purposes. They are located underneath Saint Elm Castle, always used for surveillance; near the New Castle (better known as Maschio angioino, the first royal residence in Naples) and, fundamentally, close to the current Beverello port.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
