Tour description

Kadıköy, the heart of the Asian side of the city, formerly known as Chalcedon, was a city built before Byzantium. King Byzas described it as the land of blinds when he established his city right across the Bosphorus. After falling back to Byzantium and Constantinople for almost 2000 years, Chalcedon became very famous again with the Levantines who came, settled and brought the latest European fashion to here in the 19th century.

We meet on the Asian side of Istanbul at Kadıköy Şehir Hatları pier. And having met at Kadıköy we will talk about the rich history and the heritage of the Greek, Armenian, and Levantine in Kadıköy. Then we will go to the local Kadıköy market to discover the local flavours and life. Kadıköy is the most popular neighborhood of the Asian side where many locals meet, shop, and hang out with their friends.
Discovering the lively market area is an exciting experience because of the famous eateries, vegetable, fruit, and fish markets, sweet shops, bars, pubs, and meyhanes. We will end up our tour in Kadıköy so that you can extend your experienc  after the tour.

So, let's go and enjoy

Please note that there is a cost of a ferry which is like 26 Turkish Liras - back and forth between European and Asian side of the city. You can buy your ticket from the ticket machines at the pier only with cash.

We had a great time with Didem and it was the best way to discover the Asian side of Istanbul. She was really knowledgeable and we have learnt a lot of interesting facts about the history and culture. She also has been great at showing us good places to have drinks, food and go out which we returned to after the tour and had a good time at. We would highly recommend taking the tour and it's been one of the highlight of our time in Istanbul. Thank you very much Didem!

Our tour with Didem was the perfect last walking tour for us! In just two hours we learned about the multiethnic past of Kadiköy and how this former village developed through the centuries. At the same time Didem took us on a stroll around her own neighbourhood, highlighting culinary specialties that we were also able to taste (bring some money for this - but it is all very affordable)! I will never forget the mussel with rice on the inside or the almond flour cookie created because of flour shortage during the Second World War - so delicious! Didems very personal and warm approach let the time fly by and it really felt like spending the afternoon with a new acquaintance in their own backyard. We highly recommend a tour with her!
