Free Walking Tour: Gems of the Marais
Tour description
The Marais is one of the oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods in Paris.
It flourished during the 17th Century when aristocrats built sumptuous townhouses close to the royal residences of St Pol and the Tournelles. It declined after the events of the French revolution and remained largely untouched by the transformations of the 19th Century. Since the 1960’s, it has regained public interest and is now an important cultural hub.
We will start at City Hall. Our walk will take us to Saint-Gervais and Saint-Paul Saint-Louis churches, Hotel de Sens, Place des Vosges, Rue des Rosiers, the national archives, and Carnavalet museum. We will look at the social and historical significance of these landmarks.
We will also visit the Anne-Frank Garden, a hidden park on rue des Rosiers, and a few of the small, often hidden gardens around the Marais.
Book a tour with me, and I'll show you around some of the most iconic and picturesque neighborhoods in central Paris.
