Hi! My name is Juan Camilo. I am a local to Cali, Colombia. I enjoy foreigners and showing my city around. I speak 3 languages and I lived in Argentina for 5 years. I also was a member of AIESEC, a youth leadership organization. Countries I've been to: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, USA, Uruguay. As of hobbies I enjoy playing the guitar and ukulele. I love music and languages.
Come with me and let's explore yoga + acrobatics in a way you may or may not have heard before: Acroyoga.
Plus we will be visiting one of the most beloved parks of the city: El Ingenio park. It has it's on river!
But that's not all! This park is known to be a spot for a local delicacy: Cholado (crushed ice with fruits) and fruit juices, which we will be enjoying and tasting after our class.
So we will:
What is Acroyoga?
As the name says, it's a mixture of Yoga and acrobatics. Don't worry, you don't have to be an acrobatic gymnast to be able to do it. Just a minimum of physical abilty is required. The most important is you come with an open mind and willingness to learn. We will be doing very basic stuff and advancing based on your capabilities.
Acroyoga is done in couples. It's great if you come with a couple, but there's no problem if you come alone.
Usually the stronger, bigger person will do the 'base' role and the lighter person will do the 'flying' role. The base lays down flat on his/her back, legs towards the sky, and will hold the flyer on top of them with his/her legs and hands. It's an activity of strong connection and confidence: great for couples or just a laugh.
To get a better idea, you can watch this video. Just remember, we will only do the basics and advance only as you feel comfortable: https://youtu.be/xECiTdgy9nE
Who can do it?
Anybody can do it. Both men and women can base or fly. If it's interesting to you, don't let fear win, come and try it out.
What is El Ingenio Park?
Cali sits on a very biodiverse region, with lots of water. The city is also known to be crossed by 7 rivers. And one of them, goes through this park. It's a super peaceful place in what can be a chaotic city. Locals love this park and love to come excercise and enjoy a fresh Cholado or some juice fruits.
What is Cholado?
Cholado is considered by many as the emblem dish of the city. It is a snack consisting of crushed ice in a cup, bathed with sweet fruit syrup, lemon, condensed milk, and many, many fruits. You usually see it in parks, consumed by locals after their excercise routines, or by people just looking for something cold after a hot day.
How do I get there?
Although peaceful and safe, this is not a very touristic part of town. You will probably have to take a taxi/uber to get to the park.
Our meeting place is outside the Chile Consulate in Cali. It is down by Calle 16 and Carrera 83 crossing. We will meet in front of the consulate and head to the Ingenio Park which is just by the corner, but is way too big to set a meeting point.
