Hello travelers / traveling friends! I am Masa, guru of Nara. Originally from Japan, I have been in Mexico for a year and Brazil for 7 years. I have visited Spain, Argentina, Paraguay... I am a happy and fun person, I am always looking for something new and interesting. I am very interested in meeting people and sharing experiences. I know Latin America and the Iberian countries. So now, I want to show a little bit of Japan to Spanish and Portuguese speakers. For Spanish speakers, welcome to Nara, the ancient city of Japan! The name of this pavilion, Nigatsu-dō, means Pavilion of the second month. The Shuni-e ceremony is held here in the second month of the lunar calendar. In 1667 it was destroyed by fire in the middle of one of these Shuni-e ceremonies. The current building is a reconstruction of 1669.
The Great Buddha Pavilion is the main pavilion of the Tōdai-ji. Built for the first time in the Nara Period (8th century), it was destroyed twice by fire during military conflicts, in 1180 and in 1567. The current structure is a reconstruction of 1709. Its height and its depth of depth preserve the original size, making it the largest wooden construction in the world. Dimensions: Width 57m; Length 50m; Height 48m
The South Gate is the main Gate of the Tōdai-ji. The original Gate, erected during the Nara Period, was blown down by a typhoon in the Heian Period. The current construction is of the Kamakura Period (late 12th century). The Gate is built in a double-roof style, although the lower one is roofless. Its height is 25 meters above the stone base on which it stands. The South Gate is the largest entrance to a temple in Japan.
