Hello there! My name is John and I've lived in various places around the world, including New York City, Miami, Austin, Toronto, New Zealand, London, Lisbon and now I'm here, in beautiful Valencia. I've been here for over six years and it's because the city is obviously gorgeous but the people are wonderful, as well! But it wasn't always like this. This place has seen some incredible, and sometimes bloody, history since its founding as a settlement over 3,000 years ago. It's changed hands more than a few times! I love history and have studied the history of Valencia since I arrived. Welcome to Valencia! The third largest and one of the most vibrant and artistic cities in Spain!

If you're looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path, VIP experience while exploring this incredible city, with a smaller, more personalised tour, I invite you to consider my private tour of Valencia. Let me show you why my tour offers a refreshing and unconventional perspective.

As we make our way through the streets of Valencia in small groups (eight maximum), I will guide you through the city's lesser-known districts, where art and architecture, independent boutiques and cafes flourish. We'll also explore the famous and vibrant neighbourhoods of El Carmen and Canovas, where the Silk Exchange and the Valencian Cathedral are located, alongside the creative and artistic neighbourhoods of the historical centre. Meeting point:

The meeting point is the Fundación Bancaja (https://www.fundacionbancaja.es/centro/centro-fundacion-bancaja/). It is a large art exhibition building, located at Plaza de Tetuán, 23, Valencia (Valencia). We will meet at the entrance on the northeast corner of the building (see pin on the map).

Outside visit

Fundació Bancaixa

This is our meeting point. It is also commonly spelled, "Fundación Bancaja". Located at Plaza de Tetuán, 23, Valencia, 46003. We'll meet at the entrance located on the northeast corner. It's a lovely art exhibition space (and building) but we won't be going inside...we have a lot of other things to see!

Outside visit

Puerta del Mar

A controversial monument in the middle of the city which was commissioned by Franco after the civil war. Here is where I will talk a little bit about the darker history of the city. Don't worry, after this, we will go to the beautifully designed Mercat de Colon, my favourite building in the city!

Mercat de Colon

An absolutely gorgeous building, designed in 1914 by Francisco Mora, a local architect. Although it no longer sells fresh produce, it now contains restaurants, bars and coffee shops (there is a farmers' market, outside, on Tuesdays, with lovely, fresh local produce). We'll talk about the architect and his style and use the restrooms, should anyone need to.

How much does this tour cost?

Free tours don't have a fixed price. At the end, each person contributes to the guide the amount they consider fair based on their satisfaction. As a guideline, Guruwalk recommends between €15 and $50 per participant.
