Santa Cruz de Tenerife begins its history with it´s founding, on May 3, 1494. Since then, the port of Santa Cruz was crucial on the routes to the New World, consolidating itself in the 18th century as the most important port in the Canary Islands.

 Since then, the fight for the capital has already been served. Surrounded by internal adversaries (La Laguna, Las Palmas, etc.), as well as external adversaries (pirates, privateers and foreign forces), Santa Cruz managed to build itself with working class labor, the sacrifice of artisans and sailors, as well as the cunning of merchants and politicians.
