Free tour of the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. A nomadic city, a global city.
Tour description
The tour is a pedestrian tour of the historic center of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. We will visit the old district that includes the neighborhoods of Vegueta and Triana, in an immersive experience in this provincial capital of the Atlantic archipelago.
The Canary Islands have been a center of international communications in various phases of history, and our city has played a crucial role in numerous important moments that make us better understand how the world we inhabit has been connected at a global level for more than half a millennium.
We look for those periods and common places with the people who participate in the route to understand a little better how the local is linked to the global; how the texts that have helped us understand our past are just a pretext to meet, know and relate to each other better; and place these stories in a necessary context to know that we are part of that great family that is the human community, interconnected from the very origins some hundreds of thousands of years ago.
We begin in the heart of the city, in the Plaza de Santa Ana where some curious dogs will tell us about the origin of the islands and the first living beings that populated them. Then came human beings, who like the city itself, are nomads in continuous expansion, and that is what the buildings will tell us about.
Dare to discover what pieces of history we people are made of! The city is another companion that tells us about its life.
