Soviet & Polish legacy in Baku architecture

We've had an opportunity to take part in the tour devoted to the Polish heritage in the heart of Baku: totally must-have if you are from Poland and/or interested in the influence of the European architects in the capital city of Azerbajian. We had the pleasure of exploring Baku with our guide Zaman during the “Soviet & Polish legacy in Baku architecture” tour, and it was an outstanding experience! Zaman shared his knowledge in a very engaging and passionate way. He has an impressive command of history, remembers dates perfectly, and connects facts in a way that truly captures your attention. We were genuinely surprised by how significant the influence of Polish architects was on the development of Baku’s architecture - and Zaman explained it all brilliantly. Thanks to him, we discovered a completely new perspective on the city. Tour was really interesting, a lot of information and beautiful buildings! I recommend this tour especially to polish people, you may be surprised how many of the Baku most fabulous buildings were designed by polish arcitects.

I really enjoyed this tour and highly recommend it. Zaman is an excellent guide – very knowledgeable, friendly, and his English is perfect. He explained how many of Baku’s most beautiful buildings were designed by Polish architects such as Józef Gosławski (1892–1904), Kazimierz Skórewicz (1904–1907), Józef Płoszko (1907–1910) and Eugeniusz Skibiński, and shared fascinating stories about the city’s past. It was amazing to learn how Poles came to Baku in the 19th century and created architectural gems like the City Hall, the National History Museum, and the Palace of Happiness. Seeing Baku through Zaman’s knowledge was a wonderful experience. Only positives from me!

A wonderful tour with a highly experienced and knowledgeable local guide who fully explains how a lot of Baku’s building were designed by polish architects and what buildings were built in communist time. You could ask any question and he knew the Answer. Seeing Baku through the eyes and knowledge of Zaman was a wonderful experience. His English is excellent. I cannot find a negative. But heaps of positives
