Tour description

Come with us to this Free Walking Tour to Xochimilco, the most ancient neighborhood of Oaxaca city, founded in the 15th century during the Aztec occupation. This emblematic district retains a charming "village-air" vibe, offering a peaceful alternative to the busy downtown area.

What we will explore:

  •  History & Engineering: Marvel at the 18th-century aqueduct, built by Dominican priests to bring mountain water to the city. Its stone arches now merge beautifully with colonial houses, colorful streets and even host of a famous Hollywood comedy movie.

  •  In the tour we also visit an local chocolate shop that uses a traditional and a prehispanic recipe combined. A tasting is included, but if you want to buy the products the shop offers thats up to the Walkers.

  •  Living Traditions: Visit traditional loom workshops that keep Oaxaca’s textile heritage alive. We’ll also see the local church and cemetery, the heart of vibrant traditions like the Day of the Dead.

  •  Art & Culture: Admire stunning murals by local artists that rival the famous street art of Jalatlaco.

Don’t miss the chance to experience a unique side of the city where ancient history and modern creativity coexist.

  • The tour is guided by a local artist!
  • Tips are welcome to praise the tour guide for their job and the shared knowledge
  • It's important to mention the rainy season is from May to October, during which we encourage you to bring a raincoat or an umbrella for your comfort.
