From Rome: Ostia Antica Half-Day Guided tour

Begin your journey by driving along the Via del Mare to Ostia, which means “Mouth of the River” in Latin. Explore the ruins of this once-flourishing trade center, starting at the Via delle Tombe leading to the Porta Romana, one of Ostia’s 3 gates. This is the start of the Decumanus Maximus, the main thoroughfare that crosses the city from northeast to southwest. Arrive at the Terme di Nettuno and admire the black and white mosaics of Neptune and Amphitrite. See the theater built by Agrippa, and the Forum that formed the center of the city. Your guide will point out the principal public buildings, such as the Il Capitolium and the Temple of Rome and Augustus. Near the square of the Forum, admire the House of Diana, and the Thermopolium, a Roman bar with a marble counter and frescoes depicting the foods that were once sold there. Continue to the end of Via dei Dipinti to the Museo Ostiense, where displays of ancient sculptures and mosaics can be found among the ruins.
