Westminster Abbey
An essential part of any visit to London, Westminster Abbey is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Steeped in over a thousand years of history, Benedictine monks first worshipped on this site in the mid-10th century, and the current structure has stood for over 700 years.

Coronation Chair
Created for King Edward I in 1296, the Coronation Chair has been used in every coronation since 1308, including those of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. It is the oldest piece of furniture in the UK still used for its original purpose.
Poets’ Corner
This famous section of the Abbey is dedicated to literary greats. It is the resting place of renowned writers such as Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, and Thomas Hardy, along with memorials to figures like William Shakespeare and Robert Burns.
Kings and Queens
Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066, and seventeen monarchs are buried here. It was also the venue for the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011.

Know before you go
- A security search exists on entry for all visitors.
- Bus Frequency: Every 20 mins on the Red and Blue routes.
- Face coverings are mandatory when inside the Abbey, Abbey Shop and St Margaret's Church, unless exempt.
- Galleries will open 30 mins after main opening time.
- Guests can visit the Abbey at any time. Please see the schedule for opening hours.
- In order to gain entrance to Westminster Abbey you must print your ticket - all redeemable tickets/vouchers must be printed and exchanged at the entry.
- The Abbey will be closed on the 24th to 25th of December.
- The Orange Route operates every 30 minutes, Monday to Thursday.
- They Abbey will close 30min after last entry.
- Westminster Abbey is a working church and subject to occasional closures due to special services and events – please check the website for further details.
- Your one way boat ride ticket is valid from: Westminster Pier to Tower Millennium Pier or vice versa.
