Spend a couple of hours shaping raw clay with your own hands in a working ceramic studio in Monteverde, one of Rome’s most authentic neighborhoods. Guided by a local ceramic artist, learn the basics of hand-building and get to try the ceramic wheel. No experience is needed, and you’ll leave having made something of your own, from a simple bowl to a cup or a small plate, decorated however your imagination takes you.
Your host, Emanuela, is a visual artist and ceramist who has been working with clay for years, drawing on a wider background in illustration, engraving, and printmaking. Her studio in Monteverde is a genuine creative space where she designs and makes her own pieces, so you’ll be working surrounded by real tools, wheels, and finished ceramics rather than in a classroom set-up.
During the workshop, get your hands into the clay and learn a few simple techniques to shape an everyday object: a bowl, a cup, or a small plate. The focus is on hand-building, which everyone practices throughout the session. The studio has a single ceramic wheel, so throwing is offered when time and availability allow, and can’t be guaranteed to every participant.
