Embark on an immersive journey along the Appian Way, the legendary Regina Viarum, through history, archaeology, landscape and gastronomy, with a final food tasting that is completely gluten-free.
The experience begins in front of the Basilica of St. Sebastian, where we will discover the history of the Appian Way and the connection between this place, the figure of St. Sebastian, and the early Christian communities.
We will then enter the Catacombs of San Sebastiano, the only archaeological site visited internally during the tour. Here we will descend into the underground of Rome to learn about the history of the first Christian communities, ancient funeral practices, symbols of faith, and the relationship between memory, life, and death in Ancient Rome. Admission to the catacombs is included.
We will continue to explore an ancient tuff stone quarry to understand the relationship between the city and the material of its territory. We will talk about tuff and pozzolana and their role in the construction of ancient Rome, ideally linking the world of quarries to that of the catacombs.
The route will continue along the ancient Appian Way with stops at the Servili Sepulcher, the Massenzio Complex, and the mausoleum of Cecilia Metella. These monuments will be admired from the outside, without admission to the archaeological areas.
During the walk, we will learn how the Romans lived, what soldiers and emperors ate, and what role bread, grains, legumes, cheese, olives, and wine played in daily life.
The journey will conclude at Roma Gourmet Experience, where history becomes taste. Here you will take part in a completely gluten-free guided food tasting, inspired by the Roman gastronomic tradition, with selected specialties accompanied by local wine.
An experience designed to discover Rome through all the senses: walking along its oldest street, listening to stories of its past and savoring its flavors, in an offering that is also dedicated to those who follow a gluten-free diet.
