Went to a lot of the important places in Casco Viejo, and the information was good and plentiful, also pretty streamlined in terms of history. Learned quite a lot. There was another person working with the tour guide to provide (free) water and umbrellas when needed, pretty cool!
My friend and I both really didn't like this tour. We were put off by the way he speaks - very slowly, very loudly. Also, he doesn't give correct information - we looked up a lot of what he said online, and he was just plain wrong (an example was: when Christopher Columbus set out from Spain, he was going towards where he knew India was at the time, ran into a big storm, and then went the other way and founded the Americas that way. Also said he was executed. All of this is just wrong). A tour guide shouldn't be giving incorrect info. Also, he didn't really explain the history of Nicaragua, just assumed we knew it (he literally said: "you know about xyz, right?" and then assumed we said yes, then went on). We had taken another tour so we had context, but another person on the tour didn't and had to ask him to explain it. Generally speaking, not a lot of info, and also, the time we went on the tour was when all the churches were having mass. He invited us to walk into every church, which my friend and I didn't do as we saw that as disrespectful during mass. Really do not recommend this tour.
Best tour I've been on in a long time. My friend and I both really appreciated the history overview, which was given in two parts and made it much less overwhelming (there's a LOT even as is). The places we visited were interesting as well and given the historical context, they made a lot more sense. Alejandro also provided practical information as well - where to visit, where to eat (I asked many questions about where locals eat vs the fancier places he provided). Generally speaking, good energy from the tour guide, and I asked a lot of questions which he happily answered. His English is also very good, so it was easy to ask my questions / clarifications and get them answered. My friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed the tour, thanks Alejandro!
Really informative tour for 3 hours, visited many places in the historical center. Tour included a lot of history about El Salvador, and I learned a lot. At the end, we tried some fruits and tamales as well. I wasn't expecting that the church visit which costs $2 would be for 25 minutes, so I felt forced to enter a paid place (I'm not really interested in visiting churches as I've probably visited at least a hundred in the world). Generally speaking, still a great tour and learned a lot!
Had a great time with Gio on the tour! History part was a bit short but enjoyed listening to his perspectives and experience living in El Salvador. Food tasting was amazing - ate so many different types of food, and as we went on this tour on our first day in El Salvador, we know what there is to eat beyond pupusas, yay! Thanks Gio for a great tour, would recommend it!
