Bye! My name is Josipa and I am a local guide in the city of Hvar, Croatia, with more than 10 years of experience. I love everything about my job and my island. Hvar was voted the most beautiful island in the Mediterranean and is known as the Unesco island because it is the only island in the world with 4 locations inscribed on the Unesco world heritage list.
First, we meet in front of St. Stephen's Cathedral and you will learn all about the local history , Greeks, Romans, Croats and Venetians. Then we will visit the old part of the city of Hvar , where the aristocrats lived, and you will see beautiful old houses built in floral gothic style. This is the area where most of the local restaurants are located, so I'll tell you about the local food as well. Then we stop in front of the Benedictine monastery where the cloistered nuns make beautiful lace with agave fibers. The lace is inscribed on the Unesco world heritage list and can only be seen in the city of Hvar and nowhere else in the world.
After that we head to the main shopping street from the Renaissance and you will see local art galleries and jewelers. Hvar is famous for jewelry made with coral and gold. Then I will show you the oldest theater in Europe,built in 1612, and one of the smallest shipyards on the Adriatic.
At the end of the tour , you will experience a presentation of local produce , wine and lavender oil and receive a special souvenir to take home.
