Yo! My name's Gabriel and I love wildlife. I had been born and raised in São Paulo's urban chaos, that's why I'm moving foward to the countryside, into our natural patrimonies, looking for a more calm life. Come discover those patrimonies w/ me!
Rest assure you are in the good hands of Gabriel when venturing the less tourist-trodden paths of São Paulo. A whole day in the care and company of Gabriel will see you navigating the São Paulo metro and train system and a local Uber or bus consortium, to reach Paranapiacaba. You begin your exciting and rewarding hike with a light jungle trail, passing by bogs and small streams, including a lookout that shares Santos and the sea with you. The waterfalls are a local delight. In the afternoon, you will have your lunch in the town proper, before going around rustic and nostalgic British-influenced Paranapiacaba, with its Harry Potter vibes. Be adventurous and spend a whole day in the good and informative company of Gabriel. As a nigh veteran of Guruwalks for many years from Europe to Southeast Asia to Latin America, this small and intimate tour is one of my top highlights!
I couldn’t recommend this tour more! Not only is it accessible and adaptable to everyone’s level (Gabriel was sure to make sure we knew what we were getting into at all times, both in terms of time and difficulty of the path), it’s a true gem that i feel really privileged to have discovered! The town alone is worth the trip, but if a little mud doesn’t scare you i really recommend going for the hike, taking in all the tropical green and diving into the chilly waterfalls! Gabriel is an impeccable guide, it was a pleasure to share the day with him, he’s a truly professional. Thank you again!
If you have a day in the greater Sao Paulo area but aren't a "city person" and like to do off the beaten path adventures then this is absolutely the tour for you. Gabriel was a phenomenal tour guide and all around great person! He planned a really fun day and was incredibly thoughtful and prepared (he brought me waterproof rubber boots for the trek so we could just power through the mud without worrying about it and he even had an extra pair of dry socks he let me borrow). Gabriel was super easy to talk to (I was so impressed by his language skills). We talked about Brazil, history, politics, school, jobs, his family and passions and really anything I was curious about. Gabriel was flexible with the itinerary and timeline because he knew I had an international flight home later in the day so was willing to modify the meetup point to save some time in transit since it was just Gabriel and I on the tour the day I went. As a woman traveling alone going off into the jungle/forest with someone I just met Gabriel made the experience positive and memorable. I wasn't ever concerned for my safety when I was with him whereas I would not have been able to do all the things I did with him this day if I had tried to do it alone. He knew where to go, made sure all of our transportation and logistics were figured out, and helped me though some of the "swampy" sections of the trail making sure I stayed safe. He was a great hiking companion and tour guide. The waterfall we went to was gorgeous, the trek was the perfect balance of activity and exercise without being strenuous and then when we wrapped up the hike and headed into the adorable British town we had a wonderful afternoon. Gabriel knows the local spots for the best food, drink, and patio vibes. I really enjoyed the quaint town and hearing Gabriel's personal family connections to the town and it's history. Plus the way the fog rolled in and then cleared out over the both sleepy idyllic but also busy and scenic town was just magical. Gabriel is a wonderful person and I am happy that this is how I ended up choosing to spend my one day layover in the "Sao Paulo" area (you know, broadly in the sense that we weren't in the city at all except talking the train in and out of the city, which, was also fun. It's always cool experiencing well designed transit systems and trains in other countries). I highly recommend this tour if you have the time. It was the best and most memorable GuruWalk experience I have ever done and I use GuruWalk all the time when traveling to new countries. It's 100% worth the time commitment. I was originally apprehensive about how much time in the day the transit part of the trip would be compared to getting out to the town but Gabriel was so easy to talk to the time on the train and bus breezed by. Altamente recomendado.
