Ciao, mi chiamo Magda. Sono una guida turistica autorizzata, ebrea polacca, a Varsavia. Mi sono laureata in Studi Ebraici all'Università di Varsavia e ho esperienza nella ricerca e presentazione della storia ebraico-polacca. Il mio approccio è plasmato dalla mia formazione accademica, dal lavoro nel campo dell'istruzione e dell'editoria e dalla dedizione alla narrazione responsabile. Con radici sia nell'esperienza ebraica che in quella polacca, il mio obiettivo è offrire agli ospiti una prospettiva accurata sulla storia e la cultura della comunità ebraica di Varsavia. La storia della mia famiglia è profondamente legata alla Varsavia ebraica. Mia nonna è nata durante la guerra nel ghetto di Varsavia ed è sopravvissuta all'Olocausto, cresciuta in una famiglia cattolica. Conoscere le nostre radici ebraiche mi ha spinto a esplorare la mia identità, a studiare la complessa storia dell'Europa e ad approfondire il rapporto tra polacchi ed ebrei, passati e presenti. Essendo una dei pochi ebrei polacchi che attualmente vivono a Varsavia, il mio obiettivo è offrire ai miei ospiti una voce autentica. Vi invito non solo a visitare i siti, ma anche a porre domande, partecipare alle discussioni e riflettere insieme. Ho creato il mio tour per condividere storie di famiglia e affrontare le preoccupazioni relative alla commercializzazione della storia e al declino degli standard turistici. Sono emerse narrazioni di bassa qualità o problematiche, e gli storici incoraggiano gli educatori ad assumersi la responsabilità di insegnare l'antisemitismo, il fascismo e le minacce alla democrazia. In una professione che dipende dalla soddisfazione del cliente, si è spinti a dire ai visitatori solo ciò che vogliono sentirsi dire. Troppo spesso, le voci ebraiche vengono cancellate o la storia viene raccontata solo dalla prospettiva polacca. Il mio obiettivo è condividere una storia più completa e onesta, anche se ciò significa affrontare argomenti difficili.
We had a great walking tour exploring the Jewish history of Warsaw. The experience was engaging and covered places, stories, and historical details that we had never known about, despite living in Warsaw. The route was very well designed and brought to life a part of the city’s past. We particularly appreciated learning about places that no longer exist and the traces of history that remain hidden beneath the modern city. Through Magda’s explanations, we gained a deeper understanding of Warsaw’s Jewish history just before, during and after WWII. Magda is very knowledgeable and shared the history in an accessible way. The tour was well organized, informative, and thought-provoking. We highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in discovering a deeper and often overlooked part of Warsaw’s history. Magda was a gorgeous tour guide, very kind, knowledgeable, talked about history and the polis/jewish life in a very complex and multi-perspective way. It was amazing to hear the history from her, see the city from an aspect I have never seem it before, and learn from her personal experiences.
This tour was a truly unique and meaningful experience. Given the heavy nature of the subject, I felt that the level of entertainment was not suitable, as the topic deserves a more solemn tone. What stood out most for me was hearing the voices and stories of the Jewish community who lived in hiding after the Holocaust—an experience that was deeply moving and unforgettable. Magda, our guide, was knowledgeable and engaging, bringing history to life with sensitivity and respect. I believe this tour is especially powerful after visiting Auschwitz, as it provides important context and shows where so much of the story began.
Despite getting snowed on for most of the tour, we persevered and Magda made it easy. She was knowledgeable, and made a very grim topic entertaining, providing additional context about everything. I can sincerely reccomend.
