Speciale tour del cibo di strada ad Hanoi

We'd booked one of AZ's Old Quarter food tours for our first evening in Hanoi, to get to meet some locals to find out more about this vibrant city, and to get an introduction to Vietnamese food that we didn't know much about. Our guides Binh An and Dieu Linh - both students - turned out to be warm and friendly, enthusiastic and well-informed about the city and the cuisine they were introducing to us. An had been thoughtful enough to reach out to me days before the actual tour, to ask about our preferences and dietary requirements, based on which she had curated a list of dishes at specific eateries, each of which my wife (an adventurous foodie, but with rather specific tastes) and I (a vegetarian) found thoroughly enjoyable. We appreciated the food so much that we ended up returning to a few of the places she'd taken us to, over the course of our Hanoi weekend. When I complimented her on her curation, An - who's about 19 years old, but looks like she's 14 - earnestly looked me in the eye, and, in all seriousness, said: "It's from experience, you know." Linh was an apt foil for the vivacious An; she listened more than she spoke, letting her younger colleage take the lead, but chipping in with insights of her own. She also seemed very interested in us, asking us intelligent questions about our city, and using that as reference points to tell us about different aspects of life in Hanoi. The food was terrific, but what made the evening so very enjoyable was the delightful company of our lovely guides.

I did the tour with Alex and he was a great guide! He picked me up from my hotel and drove me to different places on his motorcycle. Despite the rain and traffic, his driving was top notch and he was very careful about my comfort and well being. The food I tried was really nice and I discovered some new flavours. At the end of the tour he even dropped me off at an other restaurant for lunch and helped me to order food before leaving. Merci Alex, et bonne chance pour tes examens !
