The 17th century is known as the century of obscurantism, a century in which the Catholic Church gained power, controlling education and economic development, and beautiful Baroque structures were built such as:
The University, Tridentino College, San Pedro Chapel, Hermano Pedro Hospital and Plazuela de San Pedro.

The 18th century is known as the Age of Enlightenment, where radical changes took place such as the Enlightenment and the revolutionary movement against monarchical and clerical power. The city of Antigua experienced that event, leaving memories in its architecture.

I very much enjoyed the tour. Our guide was excellent, he made sure we were ok all along. He was very knowledgeable too and he pitched the tour to the group very well, stretching enough for all but not too much, and being a Latin American history geek, I bombarded him with questions between places and he was great! I would do the tour again!
