Tour description
🌟 Join the best Free Tour of Mérida and discover the city with passionate guides who live it day by day! This tour is designed for those who want to experience Mérida like a local: exploring corners full of history and art, but also its most authentic and cultural atmosphere.
We will start in front of Casa Montejo, an emblematic 16th-century building that was home to the city's founders and a symbol of the colonial era. Just a few steps away, we will visit the Cathedral of San Ildefonso, the first cathedral built on the continental Americas, a majestic testament to Mérida's colonial past. We will then continue to the Government Palace, famous for the murals by Fernando Castro Pacheco, which narrate the history and resistance of the Mayan people. Afterward, we will stop in front of the Gran Hotel, an elegant Porfirian building that evokes the splendor of Mérida at the beginning of the 20th century.
We will proceed to the Church of Jesus of the Third Order, a colonial gem recognized for its impressive baroque altarpiece and its connection with the Franciscan order; fragments of ancient Mayan temples were used in its construction, reflecting the encounter between two worlds. The tour will also include the José Peón Contreras Theater, the most famous in Yucatán, a 19th-century architectural jewel and the venue of the First Feminist Congress of Latin America. Very close by, we will visit the Rectory of the Autonomous University of Yucatán, a historic building that represents the academic and cultural value of the region.
We will conclude at Santa Lucía Park, a place full of life and tradition where you can enjoy the local atmosphere, serenades, and folklore that make Mérida an unforgettable city. 🎶🌿
