Rio / Salvador / Bogotá By Foot was born as a direct result of the union between the owners of Lapa & Art store, business men who believe in the touristic potential of the city- and a special group of friends with different academic backgrounds (law, theater, geography, tourism, museology) who shares two things in common: the Rio de Janeiro credentials in tourism and a lot of love for Rio de Janeiro. The business know-how was aligned with the tour guides experience and expertize. After years of tourist work, we realized that free walking tours services offered in Rio de Janeiro city needed improvements and modernization. Different from many other tourist agencies in the city, we are commited with the well being of our visitors. Our differential starts in the way we present our service. Our mission is with you: Visitors and Tourists! Lapa & Arte souvenir store believed in our project and gave us support to make our ideas come true, which led to it becoming our main partner. Because of them, our clients may have an unique experience at the end of our Free Tour with lots of advantages and comfort. Thank you for the trust in us and walk this way! #WalkThisWay

Tour description

The bohemian heart of Rio de Janeiro awaits you. During the free tour of the Santa Teresa neighborhood you will discover beautiful mansions, cute yellow trams and numerous urban art murals. We will board a public bus to head towards this neighborhood. The journey will take us approximately 15 minutes. We will begin to walk through its cobbled streets while we chat about the history of this area. Did you know that its bohemian fame comes from the wave of artists who moved here in the sixties? During the tour we will enjoy privileged views of the popular Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Between colonial houses, palaces and the passage of the famous yellow trams of the Santa Teresa neighborhood, we will arrive at Parque das Ruinas. There we can enter the house of Laurinda Santos Lobo, a mansion abandoned more than 50 years ago that once represented the splendor of the Brazilian belle époque. The space, which has been rehabilitated, will offer us a spectacular panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro and will show us what life was like in the ancient Empire of Brazil. A walk through the main urban art murals will not be missing on this guided tour. Let us remember that we are in a place full of artists.

Lola did a great job of walking us through many parts of the hilly Santa Teresa neighborhood always explaining the history, stories behind the graffiti, some political intrigue etc. we enjoyed it and learned a lot. A neighborhood very different than Copacabana but well worth the visit. I highly recommend this tour.
