I'm Harry, and being a tour guide is a great privilege for me and one that I'm desperately seeking. I really love history, my first love was the Arthurian legend and Robin Hood, which really sparked my passion for medieval history and British history onwards. Equally, I am a great lover of classical literature, so Westminster and Abbey (which is not far from being comparable to the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris due to the number of giants of yesteryear that are buried there) are one of my favorite places in London. , and always have been, and always are, as there is more and more to learn. I love music and I have traveled Europe and the United States with a band and it goes without saying that I love to travel. I would really love to talk more about these passions of mine and find out more about other people and other places.
Based on ethos & ideals of having a passionate, inquisitive & CONSCIOUS take on history & culture; my tours are designed to be just as valuable for a life-long local as a first time visitor.
From the Palaces and churches of Kings and Queens, bloody-tales and ghost stories, resting places of literary greats like Dickens; or it could be the resting place of some of the greatest and most revered (or, in some cases, reviled) British and English Monarchs of the last Thousand years. Both the residence of current and prior British Monarchs AND also the Prime Minister.
The streets that inspired JK Rowling and her world of Harry Potter as well as ACTUAL SIGHTS and places of the films AND BOOKS- (as well as countless other blockbuster classics), monuments to some of the greatest people of history, some of the most beautiful and lauded sculptures and architecture AND one of the greatest collections of classic art anywhere in the world- and that still barely scratched the surface of all that is worth seeing, though I have worked my hardest to pick the best of the best!
Westminster and it's surrounding area is a history and/or culture lover's PARADISE: truly A SYMPHONY OF WONDERS, an almost daunting collection of treasures, stories, intrigue, mystery, and objects, sights, streets, buildings riddled with fascination: The only way you can possibly discover this ridiculously fascinating area of London is with someone who is equally and eternally fascinated by it.
Story's, sights and histories that even the guide still looks on in wonder and discovers more and more stories both facts, fiction and sometimes somewhere in between- and I will always do my utmost to tell which is which! If you want more than just to be herded to the sights and have facts and dates half-heartedly and woodenly fired at you, you want someone who really loves Westminster and all of London, loves to discover all they can of history, culture and secrets; and more than that is passionate about telling them to others and loves nothing more than to meet new people and talk of this stuff and the other fascinating places that cover this miraculous planet- LOOK NO FURTHER.
It is appropriate for all ages and all temperaments as my interests are VERY broad and eclectic- so I can recommend restaurants, classic literature, pubs to watch football, churches to sit in contemplation, places to see live music and even hills to watch stars come out (though by stars in London I mean either twinkling windows of skyscrapers or the odd celebrity nipping to the shops in shades).
Really do love doing this and while I have my favourite sights and stories- no two tours need be the same as it is my firm belief that the best guides adapt to the feelings of their guests. So, (as long as you don't prefer someone engaged, bored or armed with the most basic facts and a feigned interest) and you appreciate passion, enthusiasm and a real thirst for more knowledge this is for you.
Leicester Square- opposite the Odéon cinema (on same side as/just down from the Burger King in the corner) I will be stood with a red folder (and hopefully looking dapper) by the flat stone bench/seating that lines the green.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
