Hi, I'm Paul and I've been a tour guide in Lyon for many years. I love to show people my city and make them understand what makes Lyon one of my favorite cities in the world. There is so much to talk about, from food (the culinary capital of France) to history (resistance, silk) to local culture. I also love to give tips about my favorite restaurants and activities in the city.
On this guided walking tour of the historic neighborhoods of Croix-Rousse and Vieux Lyon, you will learn a lot about the culture and history of Lyon.
We start on Place des Terreaux where you'll see the impressive the Hôtel de Ville and Museum. The Bartholdi Fountain is another highlight. Then we walk through Croix-Rousse, where the silk workers used to work.
It is filled with hidden passageways, the Traboules.
We will talk about silk and enjoy amazing views over the city. From the Roman Amphitheatre, we descend down towards Vieux Lyon, the most famous neighborhood of the city.
We will see the Fresque des Lyonnais, an impressive wall painting and Rue Juiverie, with the amazing Gallerie Philibert Delorme. We'll finish in the busy part of Vieux Lyon, right in time for lunch!
This Tour starts at Place des Terreaux. I'll be standing next to the fountain in the middle of the square with a sign 'free tour lyon'
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
An excellent walking tour giving a good overview of the lesser known parts of Lyon. Very enjoyable.
