We introduce ourselves, we are Francisco and Gabriel, official tourist guides in León, as well as passionate about the history, art and architecture of our city. Our company Caminos de León is one of the oldest, so we have extensive experience in the tourism sector. If you want to discover the secrets of this two thousand year old city, book with us and you will not regret it!! We wait for you!!
On this tour we will get to know in depth the Roman origins of the city, its history, its most important facts and of course many curiosities!
Are you a lover of Roman culture? You can not lose this!
Do you know who Corocota or Pintaius was? How was Ludus Latrunculorum played? What is commemorated in the "Birthday of the Eagle" ? or Why did they paint the wall? All this and much more characters like: Publio Carisio, Marco Ulpio Trajano... are waiting for you in the best Free Tour of the Roman Lion.
At the indicated time our local guide (great passionate about Rome) will wait for you in the Cathedral square where we will begin our private journey to the Roman Lion . In this location the Principia were found. Very close we have the Archaeological Crypt of Puerta Obispo (which we will go down whenever possible) with archaeological remains of the latrines that were attached to the thermal complex together with remains of the left main gate that gave access to the camp from the east.
Then we will continue with a nice walk along the old Via Principalis (now Calle Ancha), to reach the walls.
We will take a brief break in the Jardines del Cid, where we will show you original archaeological remains of a Roman canalization. We will continue our Free Tour visiting the vestiges of the wall in different places (Ruiz de Salazar Street, San Isidoro Square, Era del Moro Street, in conditioning works for later access).
We will finish at the León Romano Interpretation Center , where you will see seven rooms (with an extensive historical and archaeological heritage that our city houses) and a garden with the excavated remains of the old Church of Santa Marina.
