Free Tour of the Civil War in Jaén
Tour description
Our official tourist guides have prepared a very special visit to remember the events that marked a before and after in Jaén: the terrible Civil War. A conflict that pitted Spaniards against Spaniards between 1936 and 1939, and which still maintains very open wounds today.
We will stroll through those places in the city that allow us to reflect on the conflict and we will understand the importance of Jaén as a bastion of the republican resistance. Let us not forget that the capital of Jaén (along with Huelva and Almería) was one of the few places in Andalusia that remained faithful to the established order, after Lieutenant General Queipo de Llano called for an uprising from Seville.
We will tell you how the assault on the Convent of La Merced took place, how the popular courts such as the Church of the Tabernacle functioned, where the republican Czechs were located or what was called "the Trains of Death".
In addition, we will learn about the bombings suffered in the city by Franco's aviation and its allies, such as that of the Nazi Condor Legion that left 159 dead and 280 injured in a single day. Hence the importance of building anti-aircraft shelters so that most of the population could hide.
D uring our tour we will have the privilege of visiting the air raid shelter in Plaza De Santiago for free. A place that will allow us to remember and honor the victims of the conflict.
Only groups of up to 6 people are allowed in this activity. If you are 7 or more people, you will be asked for a payment per person in advance to join the visit.
