I'm Sue, the WISE & INTELLIGENT Guru of Hong Kong :) I'm a fun multilinguist LEGAL EAGLE (speaking Mandarin/Cantonese/English/French) and I am witty, smart, fun and kind. My tours are SMALL, FOCUSED & COSY. I love sharing and learning about different cultures. I've travelled through 50+ countries and I know what tourists love. I love everything that has to do with Hong Kong. Some people compare Hong Kong with Beijing, Shanghai, or Singapore and say those cities are better. NO, NO, NO, that is so not true. Hong Kong has everything and it is the best. Come join me on my tours, where you would learn so much more about Hong Kong, that no other tours could compare! Let me show you Hong Kong with many wise giggles & fun laughs!

Tour description

SMALL GROUP - Wanchai Heritage - Chinese Laborers (Coolies) living through Colonial Times
Route NOT OVERLAPPING any HK Introduction Tour
Hello travelers! I'm Sue, the wise guru from HK :)
This tour would take you around the Heritage Trail and historical building clusters within Wanchai.
You would 2 of HK's oldest temples, have your fortune told (if you want, at HK$5), learn about HK zodiac and travel through time as a Chinese laborer (coolie) in colonial HK, through which you understand about HK's history, and Wanchai's gentrification.
We will also look at incences and the creative joss papers that we now burn for the dead, and which created uproar when Gucci sends warning that ignites a social media spat.  And why not try and taste a pineapple bun, an egg tart and some Chinese wedding pastries, as we walk along?
Sites/buildings you would visit include :
1. The Pawn House
2. No. 18 Ship Street

3. Hung Shing Temple Wanchai Market
4. The Old Post Office
5. Blue House / Yellow House / Orange House
6. Pak Tai Temple (where you may wish to ask yuor fortune with fortune sticks)
7. Wanchai Market
8. Green House (Nos 1 - 22 Mallory Street)
 9. Old Jewellery Shops
10. Lee Tung Avenue (a/o IG sensation)
11. The Wedding Cake old building

***IMPORTANT***
Just a quick note on tipping: it's the standard practice for my tours, with a baseline of HKD150 per pax/per tour (HKD75 per child/per tour). Your support keeps my tours top-notch, with my historical expertise and academic background bringing your Hong Kong experience to the next level. While some guests go above and beyond this baseline, it's totally up to you! 🙏🏼

I highly recommend booking a tour with Suzanna! She was honest and very personable. I learnt so much from her and she provided very valuable information! The quality of the tour is so good and you'll never find the info she provides on travel articles. She's definitely done her research! Don't shy away even if you're a solo traveler like me

If you're planning on visiting Hong Kong or you're a local looking to learn more about the city's layered history and culture, I highly recommend Susanna's walking tours! Susanna's walking tour in Wan Chai is a treasure trove of insights. We learned the true spirit of Hong Kong and gained so much knowledge and appreciation for this vibrant city. Susanna's energy is infectious and her expertise will guide you through the history, culture, and preservation efforts of Hong Kong, leaving you with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of this unique city. From the impact of British colonialism to Japanese Occupation and the narratives of the Umbrella Revolution, Susanna brings to life the city's past and present with vivid stories and personal anecdotes. The Blue House and its preservation efforts were particular highlights of this tour, showcasing Hong Kong's commitment to maintaining its cultural heritage. This tour, rich with real examples of the city's evolution, is a must for anyone looking to understand the true spirit of Hong Kong. Even for locals, you'd walked away with newfound knowledge and appreciation for Hong Kong.

I love tours where the history is explained though stories and with humour. Susanna is a fantastic guide. She took us to places we would have certainly missed. Her enthusiasm and style suited us perfectly. We are very happy to have met Susanna.

We had such fun on Susanna's tour! It was informative yet relaxed. I feel I know a corner of Hong Kong a little better. Some great insights into the local life of the previous residents.
