Tour description

Hello, I'm Fajar and I've been guiding some travellers on the walking tour around Jakarta City for more than 5years to visit some cool spots, introduced them to the local foods, experience the local transportations such as Commuter Line Train, Angkot MiniBus, and the Small Boat etc, because I've been living n being a part of two famous backpackers hostels in Jakarta since 2013 n show them around Jakarta and make your time in Jakarta memorable and unforgettable 😎
I love to do this walking tour because basically I like to meet new friends from different countries and I think that's really interesting. I'm not only your guide, I can be your best local friend you could ever find 😉 Ask me anything about Jakarta🙏🏽 I'm thrilled to be your guide on this unforgettable walking tour through the bustling streets and hidden gems of our capital city. As we embark on this journey, I'll be sharing fascinating stories, historical insights, and insider tips that will enrich your experience and unveil the true essence of Jakarta. Get ready to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and flavors of this dynamic metropolis, where tradition meets modernity at every corner. Let's wander together and discover the magic of Jakarta, one step at a time!"
The itineraries of my walking tour are :

  • First, we meet in the Lobby of My Capsule Jakarta - Batavia at 11am. Then we will walk to Cikini Station to take the Commuter Line Train to Jakarta Kota Station for 6 stops or 6 stations. I will lend my Guests my Train's Cards and my Guests just need to top up my Train's Card Rp.10.000 per person (€0,5 / US$0,6 / £0,4).
  • Second, once we have arrived at Jakarta Kota Station we will continue walk to Glodok ChinaTown. There I will provide some Local Snacks for my Guests and we will visit some Hidden Germs spots such as Buddhist Temple or Buddhist Praying Place, Traditional Market, and ChinaTown Foodcourts.
  • Third, we will take the MiniBus to visit the OldHarbor Sunda Kelapa. I will provide the MiniBus for my Guests. There we will take the small Boat to go around the OldHarbor until the Sea. There you all will see the old and big Pinishi Boats and the Proof that Jakarta is sinking from the sea water level is higher tan the land. For the small Boat costs Rp.150.000 per Boat, so my Guests can chip-in so that's gonna be so cheap.
  • Fourth, we will continue walk to visit the Fatahillah Square or Jakarta Old Town. There we will sop for lunch at one of the nice Cafes, then I will provide another Snack and the Fruit Salad to all my Guests. After Lunch, we will walk around the Old Town Square to see the nice Old Dutch Historical Buildings, I will also share my knowledges of Dutch Colonialism Histories to all my Guests.
  • Fifth, we will take the Commuter Line again from Jakarta Kota Station to Juanda Station to visit and enter the Istiqlal biggest Mosque in south east asia. We will wear the special Outfits from the Mosque then the Public Relation Staff of the Mosque will lead us to enter the Mosque and explain us more detail about the Mosque, I will also enter the Mosque to help my Guests taking nice pictures inside the Mosque.
  • After Mosque, we can also visit the Cathedral Church that is located just in front of Istiqlal Mosque. Then the Walkingtour ends either at the Istiqlal Mosque or at the Cathedral Church.

We had a great time with Fajz! He told us a lot about Jakarta and showed us Jakarta from the side of a local. We even had the opportunity to try some really nice streetfood which we hadn't if we were not with him! Thanks again for the great tour!

The guide should provide clear explanations about the sites visited, historical context, and interesting facts. Lack of information can make the tour less engaging. And it was terrible. Please, be enthusiastic and passionate about sharing their knowledge. A good walking tour should enhances the traveler’s understanding of the city and leaves them with positive memories. Which was not the case. Some sites that we visited made no sense, and the guide did not explain anything about the sites in general. The guide could consider adjusting the tipping system to avoid any unintended pressure on travelers. Remember that GuruWalk tours are technically free, but travelers often tip guides as a token of appreciation. And afterwards the guide was coercing me to pay for a terrible tour!

I would highly reccommend the tour. You will see all the highlights of Jakarta in just 1 Day and we travelled by train, minivan and boot. Fajz explaines a lot and arranges al the transport for you. So nice to walk around the city and not have to pay attention at anything else than the surroundings.
