Tour description

Join Alex on a Brooklyn Heights history tour to learn all about America’s oldest suburb.  We’ll discuss the area’s past, from Dutch farmland to one of New York’s most elegant neighborhoods.   We’ll follow the neighborhood’s demographics over time, from a provincial enclave, to a working class Jewish and Italian community,  and eventually into Brooklyn’s most exclusive neighborhood.

We’ll weave our way through the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, stopping at several National Historic Landmarks along the way.  Other stops include Brooklyn’s Borough Hall, several famous 19th century churches, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Brooklyn Bridge, Fulton Ferry Landing, and DUMBO.  If time allows, we may even stop by a few celebrity mansions!!

Along the way, you'll have plenty of time to ask questions and engage with Alex on any number of topics.

The tours are casual, flexible, and fun, so bring your curiosity and a comfortable pair of walking shoes!

During our New York vacation, we went on four tours with Alex to different neighborhoods and learned so much about the country and its people, the history and development of the different neighborhoods and their culture. Alex is very knowledgeable and can give you endless tips. Thank you for the great tours, they were all a highlight of our vacation. We got to know a very special side of New York. And importantly for us non-native speakers: you can understand Alex really well, he speaks very clearly. Michael & Heike

Alex took us around Brooklyn Heights and we really enjoyed the tour. He was very informative, Alex had great knowledge of the area and he was also making sure throughout the tour that all the group members were catered for. We learnt about the history of Brooklyn, stopped at a fantastic bakery and also seen a few celebrities home but Alex didn't just point out the homes, he explained the history of the house. Highly recommend booking a tour with Alex, it's great fun. Thank you
