Westminster Highlights: The Procession To Power - A Wander Down Whitehall

This fascinating tour of one of London's most visited areas will introduce you to some of London's most famous landmarks as well as lesser names gems.
Perfect for someone visiting London for the first time or who wants to learn more about this fascinating area.

As Charles I sits on his horse in the historic village of Charing, staring towards the Houses of Parliament he wonders “What if…?”. This is Whitehall. Once the grandest palace in Europe and the home of our Kings and Queens, it still retains its awe and symbols of Power.

Starting with a 13th century tale of love and remembrance you will hear how Kings not only changed this area but the whole course of British History.
The story of the building of the Palace of Westminster including its iconic bell Big Ben and where Winston Churchill sought safety during World War II are two of British History's great tales.

On this walk, you will see many of our most famous national landmarks including

Trafalgar Square: - hear about one of Britain's greatest military victories (and humiliating defeat)
Downing Street: - learn about the 'perfidious rogue' who gives his name to this street
The Houses of Parliament:- the great fire of 16th October 1834
Westminster Abbey: - where Kings and Queens have been crowned since 1066
Banqueting House: - where the English executed their King

Other relevant info:
For the 10:00 walk, there will be an opportunity to watch the Changing Of The Guards at Horseguards Parade which will add approx 30 minutes to the length of the walk (unless the ceremony is cancelled that day)

The tour lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes

My name is Pat Tuggey and I absolutely love London. I can remember as a young boy excitedly visiting its many streets and attractions and hearing the fascinating stories behind them. Tales which would fill me with awe, fascination – sometimes horror – and often make me laugh. I decided to qualify with the Westminster Tour Guides and Lectures Association in order to perfect my techniques in leading tours and learn more about London. This helped me to develop my style and interests which is not only the history of the varied streets and landmarks but also the stories of the people who have left their mark over the centuries. From Kings and Queens to rogues and paupers. I would now love to share my passion and knowledge of London with you on one of my tours.
