Meiji Shrine: A Sacred Oasis in Tokyo

Duration: 2h
Languages: English
Guru: Keita
Registered on April 23, 2023

Hello, I have been living in Tokyo for most of my life and I have passion to introduce this great city to visitors. I am especially willing to help families with small children understanding that there are unique challenges when traveling abroad e.g. finding where to change naps, finding children friendly restaurants. I am happy to personalize the tour as much as possible.

Tour description

<Location>
Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is a bustling metropolis that offers a fascinating blend of modern and traditional culture. It is home to over 13 million people and countless attractions, from skyscrapers and shopping districts to temples and gardens.

Tokyo is also a city of contrasts, where you can find serene spots of nature and history amid the urban chaos. One of these places is the Meiji Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, Empress Shoken. I am pleased to take you through this sacred location where I also had my wedding ceremony.

<Tour Detail>

This tour will take you to the Meiji Shrine, one of the most important and popular shrines in Tokyo. You will learn about the history and significance of the shrine, as well as the Shinto religion and its rituals.

You will also enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the shrine's forest, which covers an area of 70 hectares and contains over 100,000 trees donated by people from all over Japan.

You will see the main buildings of the shrine, such as the main hall and the inner garden. You will also have a chance to participate in some of the activities at the shrine, such as writing a wish on an ema (wooden plaque), drawing an omikuji (fortune slip), or purifying yourself at the temizuya (water basin).

This tour will give you a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Japanese culture and spirituality.
