Zagreb - Guided tour of the upper town
Tour description
Our tour begins in Ban Jelačić Square. We continue towards Kaptol and the Cathedral. To reach the other part of the old town, Gradec, we will pass through Dolac, the main market. The next stop is Tkalčić Street, one of the liveliest streets. Gradec was a free royal city for centuries and had its own walls. The only city gate still preserved is the Stone Gate, where the image of the Virgin is kept. We will continue, passing by the oldest pharmacy in the city, to the center of political life, St. Mark's Square, where the Parliament, the Constitutional Court, and the Government are located. The square is also significant for the church, unique for its famous roof. Through Ćirilometodska Street, we reach St. Catherine's Square, where the Baroque church of St. Catherine and the first high school in Zagreb are located. Our tour of the upper part of Zagreb ends at the Lotrščak Tower, from which the Grič cannon has marked noon for over 100 years. Here is also the funicular, the shortest funicular in the world intended for public transport. After the funicular, we descend again to Ilica and towards the square, where our tour ends.
Let's explore Zagreb together!
