My name is Bernadette and I am a landscape architect born in Budapest. Hiking is my hobby and when I travel I always seek active outdoor programs such as biking, camping, kayaking, etc. - but I also like getting to know new cities, different cultures and especially meeting local people, wandering around non ”touristy” places. As a landscape architect nature fascinates me - that is why I lovingly put together the “Panoramic Hiking Tour on Gellért Hill” for you with a scenic route in the greenery while you’ll learn about our capital, history, and culture.
Discover the mysterious Gellért Hill with me and learn about this amazing city from a local! Gellért Hill is not only a great hiking spot right at the feet of the city center but also a place of legends and exciting historical events. Besides history and culture, I will also talk about hiking and nature-related topics as well.
This tour offers a little escape from the busy city center and a great way to get to know the city and enjoy nature at the same time.
We will start from the fountain in front of Gellért Thermal Bath. After a short introduction to Hungary’s history, we are going to ascend towards the top of Gellért Hill.
Itinerary:
I will show you the most beautiful panorama of both sides of Budapest while sharing historical and fun facts about the local’s past and present. At the end of the tour, I will also share some practical info about what & where to eat and drink or where to go in the city.
Join my tour if you like hiking and if you want to enjoy one of the most fascinating panoramas of the capital while learning interesting stories about Budapest, Hungary, and its citizens’ history, culture, and traditions!
IMPORTANT:
Meeting point: at the drinking fountain in front of Gellért Thermal Bath. Don’t forget the comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle! To get to the meeting point you can use metro line 4 (green line), tram line 19/41/47/48/49/56/56A, bus line 7 or 133E - or you can reach the meeting point by foot 🙂.
We will finish the tour near Elizabeth Bridge on the Buda side, near the city center and Buda Castle District.
Let me show you the city from another perspective!
Cheers, Bernadett
I will be in front of Gellért Thermal Bath, at the fountain (Forrásház). Look for a short girl carrying a purple umbrella!
We will start with a short introduction to Hungary's and the area's history. Who were the first people to live here? I will tell some legends and show the significant symbols of the city/country.
A memento of WWII.
From this point we start to ascend appr. 320 steps upwards with some stops along the way. Are you ready?
Who is this majestic lady gazing upon the city and what's her story?
We will discuss some architectural topics regarding the panorama and nowadays' building trends.
Pest side starts to unfold in front of our eyes as we say goodbye to South-Buda. Get a peek of the downtown from above!
Get a look of the UNESCO protected panorama of Buda Castle District and Danube River! Also be aware of ancient mystical powers.
As we start do descend, we can see both sides of Gellért Hill. Did it look like always this way? Meet Dora (not the explorer) and learn some secret stories from communism time.
Who are these statue figures? The story of a notorious district and what lies beyond.
We will finish our tour here looking upon Elizabeth Bridge which was named after Sissy. Here I will share some practical info and recommendations with my favourite places in the city.
One last farewell.
