I'm an indigenous tour guide with a degree in history and in-depth knowledge of the transformations that have taken place in the city of Rio, as well as the history of native peoples and the political and social contradictions that exist in the country.
We'll take a tour of the city of Rio, led by an indigenous guide, showing the profound transformations in the geography of the city centre in particular, with a special focus on ancestral black and indigenous occupation. We will then visit an indigenous village in an urban context, located next to the famous Maracanã stadium, where we will be able to experience a little of the cultural manifestation of the native peoples present, including songs, cuisine and handicrafts. In addition to the cultural experience, we'll look in depth at the processes of social struggle that are an inseparable part of the existence and organisation of these territories.
* We may take públic transport from downtown to the village.
Meeting at Glória metro station (Outeiro exit)
The last remains of the hill in which the portuguese city started after the victory against the native.
From this place we may watch and imagine a bit of the birth of the city and its Native background.
Here we may figure out the many changes in out geography along the time.
Although known as a party place, in Lapa we may see a Lot of the indigenous history in this city.
An indigenous Village stuck right in the core of the metropolis. And more than a Village, a true source of knowledge, an university!
